Air Rider HC3 Helmet Headset
(Page 2)
By Roy Seal GWRRA #120908
The Air Rider Helmet Comm 3, with an electrically powered
electric microphone is the latest and most advanced offering. The HC3 incorporates several features not offered by other
manufacturers. Ooltewah Manufacturing, Inc. (maker of the Air Rider System) proudly
boast a of using noise cancellation microphone technology used in military aircraft and the
famous Bose radios to prevent most background noise and enhance the clarity of sound
transmission. Having used several other brands of headsets, I was anxious to try
this new unit.
The aspect I most wanted to evaluate was fidelity from the AM/FM/cassette system to the
rider, as well as rider-to-passenger intercom and bike-to-bike CB communications. The
motorcycles used in my evaluation were a 19996 and a 1997 Honda 1500 SE. Both have
factory installed AM/FM/cassettes and CBs with driver and passenger radio connections.
The helmets used were new HJC FG3s open face models. The first use was riding solo using
only the AM/FM/cassette. The HC3 was put to test on a two-day ride under conditions of high
traffic density and in open country. In short, the performance was superb. The high fidelity
receivers feature frequency response from 0 to 20,000 HZ. From country-western to rock to
operatic, sound reproduction is the the best I have ever heard.
The second use was the CB while riding solo in a large group of Gold Wings. Not once did another
biker express difficulty understanding my transmissions, nor did I have trouble understanding them.
